ANTIQUE AUCTION FUN

An interesting mix of auction buys.

An interesting mix of auction buys.

I am not the type of gal to get my furniture brand new from a furniture or big box store. It’s just my own personal preference to get most of the furniture and décor items for our home from garage sales, thrift shops, estate sales and auctions. I enjoy the hunt, the history of the items and also, the price you can pay for quality pieces. Over the years I have found so many amazing finds for our home.

Although I have managed to get to thrift shops on a regular basis during this cold and snowy winter, I have been missing Saturday morning garage sales. I did manage to get to a great antique auction sale last weekend though which was so much fun. My sister and I met another friend there and we spent a long day bidding on some great vintage items. We all did pretty well and left with a full car load. An auction sale may not be everyone’s idea of a fun Saturday, but it was probably the most fun I’d had in a while.

I picked up a nice vintage round folding card table and a small formica table each for just $5. I also found a good mix of vintage treasures. Here are a few of my favorites.

These 1960s cocktail sets (all of this and a vintage milkshake mixer all for only $10):

This large brass flamingo, perfect décor for our future tiki bar:

I also bid on some vintage art that caught my eye including this E.R Glen painting:

I liked this painting by E.R. Glen that dates to 1914.

Another small painting I bought by Deakins.

Another small painting signed Deakins. It is not in the best condition but I like it.

And this vintage photo of two deer that reminds me of my dad. I have fond memories of him making deer calls (to our amusement) on our weekly family drives through the nearby Carolinian forest park.

This charming vintage photo or litho of two deer caught my eye.

And last but not least, how fun is this 1956 melamine ferris wheel for snacks? This will definitely come out at future parties.

I had to have this very unique novelty snack dish server made by Styson Art Prod. 1956.

A successful day I would say!
